You get what you pay for

KTRU was playing some godawful cacophony of squeaking squalling and honking that the dj finally announced as "free jazz." Well, I want my money back. There has been a thread wandering around the blogosphere the last couple of days about some study that (to greatly oversimplify) determined that people don't like abstract art. They like pretty landscapes. I wonder if noise-music (I'm sure there is a proper term for it, but I'm not overly concerned) is the same way. People make it and SAY they like it, or understand it, or whatever-it-is you might do with it besides run screaming from the room, because they think it's Intelligent and Cutting-Edge and liking it Proves You're A Real Connoisseur of Grown-Up Music. But deep down, they'd rather be listening to something they can sing along with.
