Something Pithy Here

"Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop." -- The King of Hearts

I'm an adopted Texan. As they say, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!" I post pictures and opinions as suits my mood, mostly because I can. Hooray Internet!

So far I have three blogs here. By the Way is the oldest. I started it in 2003. I lost a couple of years to Vox because I was too lazy to bother to export when they shut down. I consider it an exercise in accepting impermanence. When I followed my husband to Singapore for his first expat assignment, I started (T)expatriate: A Southern Girl in Singapore. That covers 2010 and 2011, give or take. Next came Oslo, and (T)expat 2: Norwegian Boogaloo,  in 2012. Now I'm back home, and back on By the Way.

Pix live on Flickr. I toss links out on Twitter when I feel like it. I'm still not sure what to do with G+ but I kinda like it.

Sandals, Jellyfish and Sa Dingding

A few miscellaneous items this evening, with no attempt whatsoever to tie them together:

Everybody wears sandals here. All the time. That makes me ever so happy! I figure I won't have to put on socks for the next three years, and my toes think that is just grand. I plan to amass a lovely collection of skimpy flat shoes--every shop that even sort of sells  shoes has cute sandals, or at least flip flops. I may be the only woman on this whole island with unvarnished toenails, though. That's going to change pretty soon!

Last night we went to a fancy Cantonese restaurant. Most of the menu was New Year's set dinners, which we couldn't do because there were just the two of us, but we enjoyed our food just the same. The MO was a bit more adventurous than I was. He actually tried the venison tendon. I just drank the soup it was in (which was delicious). We also had jellyfish, which was tasty. It's a very odd consistency, sort of crunchy feeling without actually being crunchy. Rubbery isn't the right description either. I'm sure there's a word for it, but heck if I know what it might be.

And finally, we saw the video for this song a few days ago and it's been stuck in my head ever since. I finally gave up and bought the album, and haven't stopped playing it.

Ha Ha Lili - Sa Dingding

Oh, and we finally moved out of the hotel! The guest bed was delivered today, so I went and bought sheets, and we're officially in our house now :-)
